EZULWINI – The Peaceful Warrior Foundation has come to Special Olympics Eswatini’s rescue.

This, after Special Olympics Eswatini (SOE) had requested funds from potential sponsors for the first Special Olympics Pan African Games, which are held in Egypt. The games, to be held in Cairo, will run from today to January 31. The local athletes are expected to compete in the 50m, 100m, 200m, standing jump and long jump. Other games that will be part of the continental games include bocce, volleyball and seven-a-side.

The foundation sponsored the SOE with air tickets for the 10-member delegation to the value of E110 000. Also coming to the rescue was Sports House, who dressed them with tracksuits worth E10 000 while Eswatini Sports and Recreational Council (ESRC) came in handy in providing transport from Eswatini to OR Tambo International Airport.

The delegation left for Egypt yesterday and will return home on January 31. The 10-member delegation consists of four officials and six athletes. The officials are Eward Ndlangamandla who is the Head of Delegation National Director of SOE Ntombi Nkambule, coach Veli Dlamini and nurse Simlindile Motsa. The athletes are Vusi Xaba, Lihle Mngometulu, and MpiloThwala, gold medalist Fisokuhle Maseko, Sandiswa Shabangu and Neliswa Shabangu.

Speaking during the farewell function, which was held at Royal Villas yesterday, Peaceful Warrior Foundation Chairman Prince Bandzile first thanked Swaurora Organic Health Care Products for donating funds to the foundation.

“We are grateful to be here to bid farewell to the athletes who will represent the country in the first Special Olympics Pan African Games which are in Egypt. We believe they have what it takes to fly the country’s flag high in these competitions. We want to thank Swaurora for the kind gesture which made it possible for the athletes top partake in these games,” The Prince said.
