RETAILERS STEP UP FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19
NHLANGANO – As security officers tightened the grip during the reversed partial lockdown, similarly some retailers are taking aggressive steps to combat the spread of COVID-19.
At the moment it is highly unlikely that customers with a fever would be able to do shopping from major retail outlets like Pick n Pay. It started with some retail outlets making it compulsory for shoppers to wear masks, and soon temperature testing could be unavoidable.
Visiting
From yesterday, customers visiting Pick n Pay outlets across the country had their temperature checked at the door, before they were allowed to go inside the store for shopping. This is a compulsory test that was introduced by the shopping outlet on the second day of the reversed partial lockdown.
A spot-check conducted by this publication discovered that most customers agreed to have their temperature checked and shop employees also confirmed there were no challenges they met when they implemented the programme yesterday.
Management said this was meant to protect both their employees and customers from COVID-19.
“This is for the safety of everyone in our shops,” said a manager at the major retail outlet.
It was further explained that any shopper who recorded a high temperature would be discreetly informed by a trained employee and an alternative arrangement would be made for them to get whatever they needed from the shop.
Thereafter the customer will be advised to seek medical attention.
This is one of the latest measures introduced by the major retail outlet in its bid to protect both customers and employees from contracting the dreaded virus.
Entrance
Initially, the chain store was sanitising all customers at the entrance before getting in to do their shopping. Apart from that, the shop had also restricted the number of customers allowed to enter at a particular time. Only 20 shoppers are allowed at a time, and they are only limited to a few minutes inside the shop to pick up whatever stuff they need.
While inside the shop the customers are required to stand at least a metre from each other as dictated by the rules of social distancing.
