LOBAMBA – Once again, Speaker Petros Mavimbela and Hosea Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Bacede Mabuza, were yesterday engaged in a tiff in the House of Assembly.

It was 3:10pm when Mavimbela reached the last straw and kicked MP Mabuza out of the chamber.

This was after the Speaker informed the House that MP Mabuza was not only disrespecting his position, but the entire House.

The bone of contention was once again the motion calling for the disqualification of Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo.

When the House last sat, the Speaker had to adjourn the sitting sine die following chaos that ensued in the chamber as some MPs were of the view that the motion should not be debated in the House, as the matter was still sub judice.

Motion

When the continuation of the last motion was called out by the Speaker, Deputy Speaker MP Phila Buthelezi stood on a point of clarification, stating that when they left the House two weeks ago, there had been a motion to dismiss the one calling for MP Khumalo’s disqualification.

However, MP Bacede said this was not the case.

The Speaker said he wanted the House to debate the issue and get it out of the way.

However, Manzini South MP Thandi Nxumalo said she wanted clarity from the Speaker on whether they should continue to debate a motion which the Attorney General, Sifiso Khumalo, said was flawed.

Kukhanyeni MP Malavi Sihlongonyane also stood on a point of order and wanted to know why the MPs were making a mockery of the House.

He said they were advised that whether the motion passed or not, it could not be implemented by the House as the AG had advised.

This was the similar question asked by Siphocosini MP Mduduzi Matsebula.

“Are we disregarding the AG’s advice?” wondered MP Matsebula.

Mover

At this point, MP Mabuza was constantly on his feet, telling the MPs that as the mover of the motion, he had something to submit.

Mhlangatane MP Madala Mhlanga also asked why the Speaker was allowing what had been called by the AG a ‘fatally defective motion’.

He said if the Speaker allowed it to continue, then he would rather go to the canteen and watch the proceedings from the TV screen.

MP Sihlongonyane was once again on his feet, stating that there was great disrespect going on in the House. At this point, the Hosea Constituency MP was on his feet and said utterances which cannot be repeated as he was not on speaker.

Madlangempisi MP Scorpion Nxumalo then moved that the House should vote on whether they would accept the AG’s advice or not.

However, MP Bacede remained on his feet and spoke over the Speaker, which was when at this point Mavimbela asked the Sergeant in Arms, Saviva Mkhonta, to assist the MP out of the House.

“Forget it, I am not going out,” responded MP Mabuza.

The Sergeant in Arms then walked towards the MP’s seat and negotiated with him that he walk out.

However, the Hosea MP did not entertain him.

While there was still chaos, MP Mabuza then walked out of the chamber by himself banging the door behind him.

While the MP had stepped out, the Speaker continued to address the House about respecting each other.
