NKONJWA - Traumatic! The community of Nkonjwa was left shell-shocked and distressed after they witnessed the tragic incident.

Lota Mamba (74), who is the father to one of the deceased persons, Philile Dlamini (nee Mamba), was  one of the community members who were taken aback. He said it was his first time in over seven decades to witness such in the area.

He said they usually heard about these incidents from world news and they never thought that it might happen in their community.

“As old as I am, such has never happened in the community,” he emphasised.

He said when they talked about incidents of lightning in the community; it would be about trees or cattle that had been affected, not people.

Haunt

Again, Gogo Doria Gamedze said the incident would haunt them for a long time, since it was the first time for a person to be struck by lightning in the area and it did not only kill one, but three people at the same time. On the same note, Dumisani Dlamini said they were still shocked by the incident. He said he believed that nature was starting to show its anger to human kind and this could be a sign that these were the end times.

Meanwhile, the two affected families are appealing to the nation to assist them in burying their loved ones.

Mancoba Mavuso, who spoke on behalf of the Mavuso family of Mfunwa and Sibongile, said they were related to the deceased by surname. Otherwise, he said they did not know their relatives. He said when the duo came in the area, they found that there were a number of Mavuso families and they settled in the area.  However, he said the people who might know where they came from, were the late elders of the Mavuso homestead in the community.

“So, we have not even called a family meeting to discuss funeral arrangements because we do not know the deceased people’s relatives. Again, currently there are no finances to prepare for their burial,” he said. Once more, Mancoba added that the deceased couple left behind eight children; three boys and five girls. He said the firstborn was 29 years old while the lastborn child was only three years old.

“No one is working in the family and the father survived by doing odd jobs,” Mancoba added.

In that regard, he appealed to the nation to assist them with anything, either to bury their loved ones or take care of their surviving children.

On the same note, Lota, the father to Philile, said his daughter left behind three children. He said even though he had other children who might assist him in burying his daughter, they would still have a challenge.

He emphasised that the situation was worse at the Mavuso family.

Those who might want to assist the Mavuso family can contact Mancoba at 7622 9880 or Homeboy Gamedze at 7871 0084, while those who might want to help the Mamba family can contact Lota at 7681 0443.
