NHLANGANO – Two men were on Sunday busted with dagga worth E340 380 which is believed to have been obtained from Eswatini.

The men, who were using a South African registered vehicle and believed to be from that country, are said to have been apprehended by the  South African National Defence Force (SANDF) near Golela Border, which is close to Lavumisa Border Gate.

It was stated that they were close to Pongola when apprehended and it is believed that the dagga came from Eswatini, according to information gathered from a source working at the borderline.

The source stated that they got the information of the dagga bust and were told by their counterparts that they suspected the dagga was from the kingdom.  When questioned if he established where the people ferrying it were from, the source said his informant told him they were from SA and that they suspected the exchange happened at the borderline.

In a statement shared by SANDF, it was stated that the bust was made during a vehicle control point (VCP) at Golela junction along the N2, in Pongola.

“During the operation, a white Toyota Hilux vehicle was pulled over and a search led to the discovery of the dagga,” reads part of the statement.  It was stated that the two suspects arrested in connection with the possession of dagga were taken to Pongola SA Police Service and the dagga was also confiscated as an exhibit.
