MBABANE – The biggest trending news on Sunday and yesterday was the demise of Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.

Twitter and Facebook users shared various memories they had with the late PM.

“2020 should just end!” is what most social media users shared on their posts, saying this year had been horrific as most people they loved and cherished, both public figures and private counterparts, died due to COVID-19.

The posts about ‘closing’ the year already dominated on social media after 8:30pm, before Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku officially declared that the PM had passed on due to a COVID-19-related sickness.

With disbelief, social media was abuzz with questions, people asking each other if the reports that the PM had passed away were true.

Once the DPM officially released the statement on the PM’s demise after 11pm, people instantly responded with shock, saying the year 2020 should just wind up already.

“This year has been cruel to the whole world as people lost their loved ones,” they said. They said Eswatini was going through a lot as it had lost many prominent figures in a short space of time.

“The death of our leader is an indication that the country is diving into a crisis,” one user said.

Also, it was said that the PM’s demise was an eye-opener that COVID-19 was real and people should still be cautious, regardless that the economy had been opened.

“It is now that we understand why he was stringent when it came to complying with COVID-19 regulations. He literally walked the talk and we sometimes failed him. We cannot help but feel that he has suffered the consequences of our actions and not his own,” they said.

Other people shared that they felt Dlamini’s death was premature because he had a lot to offer. They said the corporate sector had lost greatly as his capabilities in the said sector were well-displayed, especially at MTN Eswatini, which grew under his leadership.
