LATE PM’S WIFE SICK, HOSPITALISED

MBABANE – Just a week after the passing of her husband, Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, his wife, Portia Dumile Dlamini, has been hospitalised.

Portia was admitted to one of the hospitals in the country on Saturday, following an undisclosed illness, though family members believe it’s stress-related. The news of her hospitalisation was confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku, who is the acting head of government, yesterday. Masuku said he had been informed that Portia was admitted to a hospital but had no details as he was yet to check up on her. Portia’s hospitalisation happens at a time when the family is still reeling from shock following that a vehicle rammed into one of the houses where the mourning of the late PM is currently taking place.

The incident happened at Enhlanhleni, the late PM’s parental home, where his burial will be held. The car had been within the family compound when its owners decided to move it to make space for other vehicles. It is unclear what exactly happened but sources claimed that the car drove at a high speed and rammed into the house, almost directly to a room used by the late PM’s father. There were two women inside the car and they were rushed to the hospital following the incident.  The duo is believed to be related to the late PM and his wife. Mourners were left shocked following the incident while some rushed to assist the two women who were in the car.

In an interview with the late PM’s father, Walter Mphatfwa Dlamini, he confirmed the accident, stating that the car crashed into his bedroom. He said he was lucky to be alive, adding that he did not see the people who were inside the vehicle as it was already dark. He noted that it was only those inside the vehicle who were injured and hospitalised. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter. Vilakati, however, said information they got was that the vehicle crashed into a tent pitched near the house. She mentioned though that the house was slightly damaged.  Vilakati further confirmed that the two women who were inside the vehicle, which was extensively damaged were currently hospitalised.
