AUNT CHALLENGES GELANE’S AUTHORITY AT KONTSHINGILA
MBABANE - Acting Chief Gelane’s aunt is now reportedly claiming to be the rightful inkhosatana of Lawuba under KoNtshingila Chiefdom.
The aunt, Tatane Dlamini (nee Simelane), is purportedly now challenging the acting chief’s authority in that she is allegedly calling meetings and holding herself as the rightful overseer of the area. Gelane, who contends to be the rightful inkhosatana of the area, has since taken her aunt and three others to the High Court. She averred that her aunt recently reported a dispute at Hlatikhulu, claiming that she was the rightful inkhosatana and, therefore, Lawuba area was her liphakelo or under her jurisdiction. “She is now claiming to exercise authority over Lawuba area by unlawfully calling meetings of the community,” submitted Gelane. According to the acting chief, Ndabazabantu had referred the matter back to KoNtshingila Ruling Council.
Authortity
“I am the lawful authortity of Lawuba area and not the first respondent (Tatane). Recently, as acting chief of KoNtshingila, I handed over to the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini the site where KuMethula Inkhundla will be constructed,” Gelane said. The other respondents in the matter are Nkositini Dlamini, Nhlanhla Alson Kunene and Sikhunyane Simelane.
Gelane is seeking an order interdicting and restraining her aunt and the other respondents from posing as the rightful authorities of Embangweni Umphakatsi under KoNtshingila Chiefdom. She is further praying for an order stopping the respondents or anyone acting under their authority from calling community meetings at Embangweni Umphakatsi under KoNtshingila Chiefdom. The urgent application was filed on behalf of the acting chief by lawyers from the chamber of the attorney general.
Gelane submitted that Tatane was her aunt, but was not the child of Chief Ntshingila. She alleged that Tatane ngumntfwana weludzengelo (wekungenwa). “Chief Ntshingila died around 1928 and Tatane was born around 1943. Her (Tatane) biological father is Msila Simelane of KaHhohho, Hluti, under Chief Ndzabankhulu Simelane,” alleged the applicant (Gelane).
She further averred that Tatane’s mother LaMphangwa and Gudvwini Gama, were allegedly banished from KoNtshingila Chiefdom. Tatane and her mother, according to Gelane, then went to stay at the latter’s parental homestead at KaNdlela at Ezibondeni.
