VULIMPOMPI REVEALS WHY SOME MPS ‘SILENT’ IN PARLIAMENT
MBABANE – Nkwene Member of Parliament (MP) Vulimpompi Nhleko has received backlash after suggesting that some MPs who are not wealthy fear speaking up in Parliament.
He said the MPs did not raise issues because they feared being discriminated against by government. The MP is heard in an audio shared on various social media platforms, saying politicians who are less affluent are not vocal in Parliament because projects in their constituencies end up being sabotaged or stopped. Nhleko further alleges in the audio, that those who were outspoken were those who were rich and could fund projects in their constituencies. It was gathered that he made his statement during a community meeting of the completion of a hall with Buseleni residents during the past weekend.
“There is nothing you can do, even if you can talk your lungs out. Instead, you will not see this road. This water, you won’t see it. Even the donations from the Taiwanese are taken from us because we irk them,” he alleged. MP Nhleko further alleged that if they (MPs) spoke out, nothing would ever be done for their constituencies. “That is why you will not hear me talking like Baceth. Baceth knows he is rich. He has a grader and a TLB. Then if someone like me talks, they will be in Parliament for five years and leave without having completed one project for their constituencies,” Nhleko claimed.
He further purported that even if they solicited sponsors, government would prevent them from securing any. “The money goes to Cabinet and they discuss that you don’t get it,” he alleged. The MP highlighted that currently, his constituency secured funding for a community hall worth E4 million. Nhleko mentioned that it would be used for multi-purposes.
He is heard in the audio commending the hall’s beauty, having mentioned that it was up to the standard of His Majesty’s 2022 Vision. The politician further informs his constituents that the construction of the hall was made possible by his efforts and those of some constituency members who worked tirelessly and diligently in ensuring that the project became a success.
