LONG QUEUES, PETROL RUNS OUT AT SOME STATIONS
MBABANE – Long queues are a common sight in town these days and it is not just people at grocery shops or banks but cars at filling stations too.
A queue reaching the stop sign closer to the Ministry of Finance leading to the Engen Filling Station was observed on Friday. However, people carrying containers also cramped the filling station to get their containers filled. Some of the motorists were seen filling their cars using the containers next to the filling stations. Some of the filling stations had signs which advised motorists that there was only diesel available and petrol was out of stock others were not operating at all as there was no fuel available.
The fuel shortage was caused mainly by lack of supply due to the violent protests which turned into looting and vandalising of properties in the country made it hard for fuel retailers to get supply from their suppliers.
This is the second time the country has been hit by a fuel crisis as the same happened a few months back and one of the reasons was the burning of a fuel depot in South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, among other things, resulting to government services being disrupted in the process. This included ambulances being grounded and police vehicles failing to reach out to emergencies.
