PERCY SCOOPS TOP POST AT KING’S OFFICE
MBABANE – Former Government Spokesperson Percy Simelane has scooped a top post as Director of Communications for the King’s Office.
This was confirmed by Chief Officer at the King’s Office, Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze. Simelane officially retired from his position as Government Press Secretary in February 2020. His responsibilities included co-ordinating government communication and ensuring dissemination of public information and clarification of government policies and programmes through the use of local and international media. Also, he handled dissemination of updated government information using all available communication tools and ensuring a balanced relationship with the media. This position is currently occupied by Sabelo Dlamini, who is deputised by Thabile Mdluli.
According to Gamedze, Simelane’s new duties will include setting up the communications agency at the King’s Office. He will be responsible for hiring relevant professionals who would handle issues of communication and website for royalty, among other things. “These people will hand out information periodically to the media houses,” said Gamedze. He stated that Simelane had already started executing his duties. The chief officer said once the office was up and running, Simelane would then be relieved.
Simelane has a rich history in the communication business, having worked at the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services. He joined Cabinet during the late former Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini’s tenure, until his retirement early last year.
