LUKE COMMISSION OFFERS VACCINATION INCENTIVES
MBABANE - The Luke Commission (TLC) has resorted to giving away incentives to encourage the nation to vaccinate.
This follows an announcement by TLC that after noticing the decrease in the number of people who vaccinate, they would now be giving away incentives. According to TLC Director Rogers Mamba, to encourage all emaSwati to vaccinate against COVID-19, TLC would be awarding incentives to random people selected in vaccinating sites in the kingdom. The awardees will be given grocery vouchers of between E200 and E500.
“We are worried about the decrease in levels at which emaSwati are vaccinating these days. This is an indication that people are not worried anymore about COVID-19 and are now thinking that things are back to normal. Through the initiative of awarding people with the vouchers, we want to highlight the importance of vaccination and to encourage those who have not yet got the jab to do so. Do not wait, vaccinate today,” Mamba said. He stated that there would be three categories for the incentives which consisted of grocery store vouchers that would be awarded to people on a weekly basis. He said the first prize was a voucher of E500 worth of groceries, while second prize was a grocery voucher worth E300 and the third being one of E200. Mamba said they would then host weekly gift presentations in the different regions.
He mentioned that the first weekly gift presentation would take place on Friday at The Luke Commission Miracle Campus located in Sidvokodvo. Mamba said they previously received over 650 severe and critical cases of COVID-19 during the third wave. “As part of its COVID-19 pandemic response, just prior to the third wave, TLC opened an on-site oxygen production plant, which provided a secure, abundant source of oxygen for COVID-19 patients. “We do not want to see patients end up in ICU beds with COVID-19 when they could easily be protected by getting vaccinated,” Mamba said. He urged emaSwati not to delay in getting vaccinated as the COVID-19 forth wave was likely to hit the country in December.
“Eswatini is blessed to have vaccines available, and we must all vaccinate as quickly as possible. The best way to protect the nation, your family, and yourself from COVID-19 is to get the jab,” he said.
Encouraged
Director of Health Services Dr Vusi Magagula also encouraged people to vaccinate in order to reach 70 per cent of herd immunity in the country. “COVID-19 has affected a number of sectors in the world, including businesses, health, education and tourism to name a few. If we want all these to go back to being operational, let us help each other by vaccinating .This will also help emaSwati in ensuring that they are well prepared for the future,” he said.
