RESIDENTS MEET COPS AFTER BODY FOUND WITH MISSING PARTS
NHLAMBENI – Community members of Nhlambeni yesterday met police officers following the mysterious death of a community member.
The community members were said to have requested an elder of the area to seek a meeting between the community and the police following that Heshane Motsa supposedly died under mysterious circumstances. The meeting was convened at the Nhlambeni Sports Ground, which is in close proximity to Nhlambeni Nazarene Primary. According to a family relative, who requested to speak on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the matter; the deceased was found with a missing upper lip, left eye and nose. He said also patches of his skin on the forehead and leg were also cut while there was also a gaping wound just behind his ear.
The senior citizen said Motsa was found dead in his bed last Thursday morning, with the said injuries and missing body parts. He said subsequent to this, there were growing concerns among some members of the youth and in fear of the worst, it was agreed that a meeting should be convened so that the police could update them. He said there were concerns that the deceased could have been murdered for ritual purposes as there were missing body parts.
Mystery
The mystery surrounding the death, he said, was that Motsa had been alive the previous day. “What we knew was that he had suffered a stroke and such a person can’t then be found with missing body parts. The youth wanted to establish who gouged his eye, removed the nose and upper lip while also peeling off his forehead skin,” the relative said. The senior citizen said the people who were first to see the deceased last Thursday said he was found in his bed and there were no bloodstains within the house. This, he said, was also what had caused the youth to demand that the police investigate the matter.
He said there were those who were casting aspersions and the fear was that the allegations that were being made could lead to turmoil. The relative further said they were waiting for results of a post-mortem that was conducted on Tuesday. He said they were hopeful that it would give clarity on what could have really happened. On the other hand, another community member who was among the over 50 community members, claimed that they had approached the family to request that the police should be pressured to expedite the investigation. This, he said, they did following that the manner in which the deceased was found left many questions unanswered.
Meanwhile, means to get comment from the family proved futile as an elder of the family said she was preparing for funeral arrangements as the deceased’s brother had also passed on. She requested that the family be afforded privacy and time during this trying period. Also, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that a person was found dead last week. She said according to their records; they found him with all his body parts intact. However, Vilakati said the police were investigating the case.
Worth noting is that in 2016, two emaSwati men were arrested in South Africa after they were linked to a cross-border ritual murder syndicate. The two were abducted and assaulted by South Africans after they were fetched from the kingdom. It was suspected that they were linked to a syndicate that was accused of a number of ritual murders in the neighbouring country. The two emaSwati were related. The mob that abducted them descended on their residences on Sunday at around 11:30pm.
