STORM LEAVES TENANTS WITHOUT SHELTER
MBABANE – The heavy hailstorm experienced on Friday left some tenants and residents without shelter at Phola in Nhlangano.
The storm started at around 3:30pm and blew away roofing in over 10 one-room flats at Phola. According to the landlord, Pasipoti Dlamini, the storm left a trail of destruction at his flats. He said after the roofing was blown away, heavy rains destroyed the tenants’ items, which included beds, food and other items. During a visit to Dlamini’s flats on Saturday, he was trying to restore the roofing while the tenants were seated outside with their belongings scattered everywhere. He said the tenants told him that they had nowhere else to go because it was mid month. The landlord said it was for that reason that he had to rush and find new corrugated irons sheets to restore the roofing. Other places that were affected by the storm around Nhlangano included Makhosini, Mahlabatsini and others.
Dlamini said he had already spent about E37 000 to procure the necessary items, which included the new corrugated irons sheets. Meanwhile, a church structure situated at Phola was also affected by the storm. Apostle Melusi Ndzinisa of the Christ Fountain of Life Church said the storm came at a time when they were supposed to start their end-of-year conference on Friday. The church structure was built with wooden panels and corrugated iron sheets. The apostle said the storm greatly affected them as the sound system they had hired was not spared. He said the system could cost over E50 000. Ndzinisa also said a car which was parked nearby was also damaged as the wooden panels fell on it. He said those who may want to lend a helping hand in rebuilding the church and procuring the sound system, they could make their donations through MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) or e wallet via 7676 3567.
