2 MEN ARRESTED FOR 6 CARCASSES OF GOATS

SITEKI – Two men yesterday appeared before Siteki Magistrate Cebile Ngwenya charged with stock theft after allegedly being found with six carcasses of goats with two skinned, at Mafutseni area last month.

The goats were valued at E8 300. Mbongiseni Nkosingiphile Sifundza (26) of Lubhuku area under Chief Mcoshwa Shongwe and Nkululeko Ndumiso Mdluli (31) of Hlatikhulu area under Chief Maphumzane were charged for contravening Section 3 (a) as read with Section 18 (1) of the Stock Theft Act 5/1982 as amended by Stock Theft Act 11/1987 in that upon or about December 11, 2021 and at or near Lubhuku area in the Lubombo Region, either one or both of them acting in furtherance of a common purpose, did unlawfully steal stock, which was six goats valued at E8 300, the property of or in the lawful possession of Musa Welcome Nkambule and did thereby contravene the said Act. They both elected to conduct their own defence when their right for legal representation was read to them. During cross-examination, Sifundza was asked by Prosecutor Lomthandazo Lukhele, representing the Crown, to tell the court on what transpired on the fateful day.

Lured

In his own words, Sifundza said he was lured to be part of the mission of stealing the goats and it was not his intention. His co-accused, Mdluli narrated that he was called by his cousin to come and assist with the transportation of the goats. He told the court that as he was in the taxi business, he could not decline and the goats were loaded in the boot of his sedan. Magistrate Ngwenya asked Nkululeko if he was aware that he was transporting stolen goats, to which he responded to the negative. Ther magistrate remanded both accused persons into custody pending his issuing of her judgment next week Monday.
