4TH MAN KILLED BY MOB AFTER RAPE SUSPICIONS
SITEKI – Another mob, another death!
In less than a week, four mob attacks have taken place in the country, resulting in the death of four people. On Thursday evening at KaNdzangu area under Mpolonjeni Inkhundla, a man was killed after suspicions of raping his girlfriend at her homestead. The woman is said to have raised the alarm to the effect that she was being raped, drawing the attention of a group of men who were seated outside enjoying marula brew (buganu) to come to her rescue.
Dragged
The men are said to have responded to the calls for help and dragged the suspect out of the house and assaulted him. He died while receiving treatment at the Good Shepherd Catholic Hospital (GSCH) on the same day of his admission. A source close to the matter confided that among the men were the woman’s siblings, who were seated with friends. The source claimed that the man was heavily assaulted and at that instance, bundled into the boot of a Toyota Vitz sedan, which is currently parked at the Siteki Police Station. After the assault, the source alleged that the man was taken away from the homestead and the destination was not known as one family member called the police from the Mpolonjeni Police Post, who promptly alerted their colleagues at Siteki Police Station.
The source further claimed that the officers from Mpolonjeni Police Post were able to identify the car and intercepted it. “They stopped the sedan and conducted a search after being alerted that the deceased was bundled into the boot of the car. They took the man, who was still alive, and whisked him to the hospital and it was later established that he died while receiving treatment. It is an unfortunate incident as the man had an altercation with his girlfriend and then he was suspected that he was raping her, when she raised the alarm to her siblings who were with friends outside,” the source added. The deceased hailed from Mpolonjeni area, just less than 10km from KaNdzangu community.
Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Nosipho Mnguni confirmed the matter. Mnguni said the man who was killed had an altercation with his girlfriend and she raised the alarm, resulting in the incident. “We are still conducting investigations regarding the death of the man in this matter,” she said. Another recent mob attack is that of a man who died while receiving treatment at Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital, after being attacked by a mob suspecting that he had stolen E7 000 from a woman of the area. Another happened on Friday when a Zandondo High School pupil, Njabuliso Vilakati, was hacked and thrown into fire by a mob on suspicions that his family was involved in witchcraft activities in the KaGucuka area.
Stabbed
In Nhlangano, a boyfriend who stabbed his former girlfriend to death at Phola area on Friday was also killed by a mob. The man tried to escape the scene of the incident, but the mob attacked him and he died on the spot and was certified dead upon arrival at the Nhlangano Health Centre. Worth noting is that KaNdzangu, KaShoba and Mpolonjeni communities have been marred with a spate of mob attacks over stolen goats. Last month, a car carrying 26 goats was torched by a mob after suspicions that the goats it was transporting had been stolen.
Meanwhile, the country is currently experiencing a wave of mob attacks in recent days.
