2 BOYS (15) HELD FOR RAPE OF WOMAN (33)
NHLANGANO – Two 15-year-old teenagers of Mashobeni under Chief Mgodzi in the Shiselweni Region have been arrested for allegedly taking turns, raping a 33-year-old woman.
The two boys, whose names are known to this publication but will not be revealed due to their age, yesterday appeared in the Shiselweni Magistrates Court. They were charged for contravening Section 3(1) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act 15/2018. On Monday, at Holneck area, the accused persons are alleged to have acted in common purpose to unlawfully force one *Sindi (33) into sexual activity without protection. During their appearance in court, their guardians were present and the charges were read to them. The teenagers’ rights to legal representation were also read to them and they elected to conduct their own defence. They both pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sindi told the court that on the date the offence was committed, she was at Ekhayeni Bar at Holneck with other young women from 8pm, enjoying alcoholic beverages. She said they remained there until midnight when the bar closed. She said she left the bar alone and headed home. Sindi told the court that along the way home, there were some area where there was tall grass, where two boys emerged, grabbed her and pushed her into the thicket. She narrated that one of them covered her mouth when she tried to call for help. Sindi informed the court that she could not fight them and they allegedly raped her.
She further told the court that the boys took her mobile phone and money, which was E100. She said after the shocking incident, she went home and slept wearing same clothes she was wearing when the boys had raped her. She said in the morning her niece told her that her phone had been found and it was with the police. She said, that information came about through some other men who told her that her phone was recovered from two boys who they had assaulted after being found breaking into someone’s home.

Sindi further told the court that on the same day after her phone was recovered, she was advised by one Siphamandla to go to the police and report the rape incident. She said when she arrived at the Nhlangano Police Station, she was asked about two boys who were at the police station but she did know them. She stated that later on that day, she was taken to the hospital where a medical doctor examined her. The doctor’s report was read in the court before it was adjourned. The matter was then postponed to May 17, 2022 and the guardians were warned to keep the date. *Not real names to protect minors.
