NOKWANE – Finally, the time has come for aspiring soldiers to engage in contest of strength as they will be racing for undisclosed army jobs.

This is because the Commander-In-Chief of the army, His Majesty King Mswati III, has commissioned the army recruitment team to start recruiting aspiring military men from the country’s tinkhundla centres from Monday June 6, 2022. During the 2022 Army Day, the King mentioned that the defence force would recruit this year as he wanted the recruits to graduate during next year’s commemoration of the Army Day.

The announcement about the recruitment process, which is expected to take six weeks at the tinkhundla centres, was made by the leader of the recruitment team, Senior Private Mtfwalo Gina and Lieutenant Cebile Ginindza during a press conference, which was held at the Army Headquarters at Nokwane yesterday afternoon. Ginindza said the commander-in-chief of the army called upon individuals who felt they were fit to join the army and serve the nation, to go to their tinkhundla centres where the recruitment exercise would be conducted. He said the interested individuals should not come to the army headquarters. He said interested individuals should between ages 18 and 35 years. He said on the recruitment dates, they should bring their national identity (ID) cards. Efforts were made to ascertain the number of posts available in the army, but the UEDF Public Affairs Officer 2nd Lieutenant Tengetile Khumalo said for now, they did not have the number of people to be recruited.

Standard

She said the announcement was that those who felt they were fit to be members of the defence force and believe they could meet the required standards, should go to their tinkhundla centres on the recruitment dates. Recruitment exercises in the other two security forces; Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) have already been conducted and most of the time, they recruit to fill vacant posts, which were created when officers left the departments either after retiring or due to death and resignation.
It is worth noting that the army last recruited in 2017 and the a total of 1 099 people joined the military. They graduated during the 2018 Army Day and the commander-in-chief named their regiment; Sukasambe. During the 2017 recruitment exercise, the aspiring soldiers were expected to run 3.2km and complete three physical exercises; 50 push-ups in two minutes, 50 sit-ups in two minutes and 20 jack-knives in two minutes.

Once again, it is worth noting that during the army recruitment exercises, some aspiring soldiers try to cheat in different ways. Some participate in different tinkhundla centres. Others were reported to have hired taxis to take them closer to the finish line, while others hitched rides along the way.
