SOME POLITICAL ACTIVISTS INVESTIGATED FOR ARSON, ATTEMPTED MURDER ACTIVITIES
MBABANE – Some political activists are being investigated for suspicions of being hands-on in criminal activities, inclusive of arson and attempted murder.
The political leaders, who are purportedly a subject of an investigation by the police, are known to this publication but will not be named for now as there are no formal charges laid against them. Impeccable sources have claimed that members of the Serious Crimes Unit (Lukhozi) and Organised Crimes Unit (Tingculungculu), are currently following leads, that the political leaders’ were allegedly hands-on in a series of criminal acts. The sources claimed that the scrutiny of the political leaders, involvement started after a tip, that they were responsible for renting vehicles that were allegedly used in arson attacks and in an attempted murder of senior police officers. The vehicles are said to have been, in different occasions, rented at one of the car rental dealerships in the country. One of the political activists is said to have used personal documents when renting some of the vehicles and also listed a personal number in the receipts issued by the dealership.

According to impeccable sources, the activist rented some of the vehicles a day before an arson attack. One of the vehicles rented by the said political activist was captured refuelling in CCTV footage of a filling station. It is said on the day in question; the vehicle was being driven to engage in an arson attack at one of the homesteads in the Manzini Region. The sources claimed another political activist was allegedly linked to a shooting that happened at Sithobelweni, where senior police officers were duped into believing that they were to meet an informant, only to be targeted and shot at. The senior police officers were able to flee the scene, while the assailants were still firing shots at them. The political activists are alleged to have been present during three arson attacks, targeting Inyatsi Construction.
A few weeks back, Inyatsi Construction reported that it was willing to lose about E50.5 million in order to protect its workers and assets and to bring to book the perpetrators of the arson attacks. It was said the activists were also fingered in the arson attack at the Central Transport Administration (CTA) premises in Mbabane where a number of government vehicles were torched. Meanwhile, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati said her office did not discuss matters which were still under police investigation. Regarding this matter, she said even if it existed, she was not going to talk about it.
