GOVT REOPENS 6 BORDERS
MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has reopened the six remaining land ports of entry/exit between the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of South Africa as of August 1, 2022.
The announcement was made by the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nhlanhla Nxumalo, yesterday in a press statement. Nxumalo said the decision followed negotiations between the ministers of Home Affairs in the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of South Africa. The border posts were closed since January 1, 2021 to control the spread of COVID-19. This came after the South African Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Pakishe Aaron Motsoaledi announced the reopening of the SA border posts on Friday.
“I, Dr Pakishe Aaron Motsoaledi, the Minister of Home Affairs, hereby, in terms of Section 9 A of the Immigration Act (Act No.13 of 202) and Regulations 6 and 8 of the Immigration Regulations, 2014, determine the August 1, 2022 as the date on which all closed ports of entry shall be reopened.”
Nxumalo said the ministry appealed to cross-border travellers to produce all the requisite travel documents when they presented themselves to officials at the border. He said visitors and returning residents would be required to be fully vaccinated. He said fully vaccinated persons entering the country did not require a negative PCR test result; however, a negative PCR test was required for individuals not fully vaccinated. The Sicunusa and Nsalitje border posts will operate from 8am to 6pm while Gege, Bulembu, Sandlane and Lundzi will operate from 8am to 4pm.
These ports of entry will operate as follows:
l Sicunusa 8am to 6pm
l Gege 8am to 4pm
l Bulembu 8am to 4pm
