WHY LAZWIDE EVENT POSTPONED – RA
MBABANE – Lubombo Regional Administrator (RA) Themba Msibi says the postponement of Siphofaneni MP Nomalungelo LaZwide Simelane’s thanksgiving service was solely in respect of the Umhlanga Reed Dance Ceremony.
In an interview with this publication, Msibi started off by setting the record straight that, actually the letter was directed to Siphofaneni Indvuna Yenkhundla Mzimela Simelane, who had earlier written to the RA’s office, inviting the latter to the now postponed event. The newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) had intended to host a thanksgiving service meant to appreciate God and the people who voted for her to be the Siphofaneni MP. Simelane won the elections of July 30, 2022, to replace her husband, Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane, who lost his seat after missing 21 Parliament sittings. He is currently regarded a fugitive from the law.
Msibi then narrated that the MP’s event dates were clashing with the national event, Umhlanga. He narrated that they did not ask her to postpone it because they were against it but due to that the entire country’s focus was on the Umhlanga as commissioned by His Majesty King Mswati III. “Awu, emababombo onkhe alibhekise emhlangeni,” said Msibi in vernacular. The RA said they had informed the MP on the above reason. He also cited issues of security as part of the reasons why they had to ask Simelane to postpone the event which was scheduled for September 3, 2022.
He said in such events, where there would be a lot of people, police would have to provide security but due to Umhlanga, the state security agents would be at the national event. Msibi stated that as the RA’s office, together with the chiefs under Siphofaneni Inkhundla, they would also like to attend Simelane’s event but due to the Umhlanga, they might then be divided hence the plea to postpone it. The RA said due to that, they then pleaded with the MP to choose another date, to host her thanksgiving ceremony. Msibi said even himself wanted to attend the service.
