MBABANE – Mzwakhe Myeni has been expelled from the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO).

Myeni’s expulsion from the movement came as a result of the disciplinary hearing, which was conducted a few weeks ago, following his suspension. Myeni was first suspended as SWALIMO Lubombo District Chairperson. He was suspended on allegations of dishonesty, forgery and falsification of information. He was slapped with six charges. Among these charges, there was a charge for allegedly working outside his scope of work and for bringing the organisation into disrepute by falsifying the letter without consultation with the executive he was leading, as per the organisational governance procedures of the movement. Myeni’s expulsion was carried in the 22-page DC verdict that was sent to him. This publication is in possession of that document. The verdict is dated September 12, 2022. It was delivered to Myeni by one of the leaders within the movement. The leader sent the document to Myeni via  WhatsApp yesterday at around 10:52am. Part 76.1 of the verdict states that Myeni’s membership is terminated forthwith.

Rehabilitate

“The movement still needs to grow so is cde Mzwakhe. He must also rehabilitate himself …. but his rehabilitation must take place outside the structures of the movement. The movement needs a dedicated and united force as it challenges a formidable regime. Self-destructive and factional leaders should not be welcome at this stage, especially those who are manipulative, deceitful, power hungry and media frenzy. It calls that I must tender a sanction that will be commensurate to the transgressions he had (allegedly) committed. The appropriate sanction is that; Cde Mzwakhe’s membership is terminated forthwith,” reads the document. The document further stated that should Myeni wish to be part of the movement in future, he shall issue an unconditional apology to the SWALIMO National Executive Committee (NEC), Hhohho and Shiselweni districts chairpersons and to the movement at large. It was stated that such an apology shall be published in all the platforms he held interviews with where he was pillaging the name of the movement.

It was further stated that in his apology, he shall make a commitment not to in future intimidate leaders of the movement. It was stated that he shall also specifically state that he shall support all female leaders of the movement and protect them from any forms of intimidation of whatsoever nature. The movement said in the event he had complied with the above, he may be eligible to reapply for membership after three years of this verdict or after a national conference had taken place, whichever shall occur earlier.

Hearing

According to sources, the hearing was conducted in Myeni’s absentia as he made it clear that he would not attend the hearing. Myeni had described it as a kangaroo court. It was established that during Myeni’s hearing, five witnesses were paraded and thus the movement came to the conclusion of expelling him from the organisation. It was also gathered that the witnesses included the two district chairpersons (Hhohho and Shiselweni) and certain three branch chairpersons. When sought for comment, Myeni confirmed receipt of the 22-page document, which is titled ‘DC verdict’, informing him that he had been expelled from the movement. However, Myeni said he did not recognise the decision to expel him until the organisation adopted a constitution and went to a conference/congress where guiding measures and documents would be adopted.  He said if one had committed any felony, the documents would dictate how such should be handled following proper disciplinary measures. “I’m still a SWALIMO member,” said Myeni.

He said since he was of the view that the disciplinary forum was created by the movement’s President Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane, he (Myeni) could not be expelled by any individual who was also not even an elected president of the organisation but appointed by the founding members of the organisation. “I won’t even be expelled by a man who betrayed his own brothers (Hon Bacede Mabuza and Hon Mthandeni Dube), who vouched that no matter the situation they will not escape, but face the system and if need be; they will be arrested for the truth,” said Myeni. He alleged Simelane betrayed them (Mabuza and Dube) and ran away, as they were languishing in prison today because he betrayed the whole course and currently, while Simelane was allegedly enjoying himself overseas, but still claimed to be fighting for emaSwati. “He is living his best life while Bacede and Mthandeni and all emaSwati endure the pain of the system,” said Myeni.

Myeni expressed hope that emaSwati would see now who was delaying the struggle. “Who is sinking the whole mass democratic movement and why. Magawugawu thinks the route to liberation is his road where we will keep brushing his ego, never!! SWALIMO is not his property, it belongs to the masses, if he wants a ‘yes man’ organisation, he can shift from politics to another entity,” he added.

Fighting

He said he would not stop being a SWALIMO member; he would keep fighting for the truth and will serve emaSwati until they achieved liberation. “I will work on the ground and I will always be visible in all SWALIMO activities as I’m still a member until the branches deem otherwise, not an individual,” he added. SWALIMO Spokesperson Thantaza Silolo said the movement was still to communicate with Myeni regarding the outcomes of the issue after deliberations on recommendations from the disciplinary committee. When further pressed regarding the document that Myeni had already received, he said the document was a report from the disciplinary committee which still needed to be discussed at NEC level and agreed upon, then communicated to the relevant stakeholders and the media as the final verdict. When sought for comment on the allegations made by Myeni that he (Simelane) betrayed the two MPs, and him living large in the UK, he (Simelane) said he did not have a comment on that as the matter had been addressed over and over again. He said Myeni should be allowed to say whatever he wanted to say.
