KING APPOINTS 11 JUDGES, 8 OF THEM PERMANENTLY

MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has appointed 11 judges for the various courts.

Eight of the judges have been appointed on a permanent basis. Three of them were appointed as acting judges. The appointment of the judges was announced by the Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Chief Justice (CJ) Bheki Maphalala, yesterday. The newly-appointed permanent judges, consisting of five men and three women, were sworn in yesterday by the CJ at the High Court conference room. The CJ announced that three of the judges were appointed to the Supreme Court. These are; judges Mbutfo Mamba, Judith Currie and Van der Walt.

Appointment

When Judge Mamba was appointed, he was an acting judge of the Supreme Court. Judge Currie was also an acting judge of the Supreme Court. Judge Van der Walt was initially appointed to the Industrial Court of Appeal. She has, however, been moved to the Supreme Court. Judge Sabelo Masuku, who is the Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration/Integrity, has been appointed a judge of the High Court on a permanent basis. His appointment came at a time when he was an acting judge of the Supreme Court. The senior attorney was with the law firm, Howe Masuku Nsibande Attorneys. He was the only judge to be appointed to the High Court yesterday.

Senior

Andreas Lukhele was appointed to the Industrial Court of Appeal. He was the only one appointed yesterday to this court. Lukhele, who is well-known in the football circles, was a senior attorney at Duseith Attorneys. He was an acting judge of the Supreme Court when he was appointed to the Industrial Court of Appeal. The newly-appointed judge was previously appointed a judge of the High Court. His Majesty the King also appointed three judges to the Industrial Court. They include University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Lecturer Muzikayise Agrippa Motsa. He was part of the law firm, MotsaMavuso Attorneys.

Judge Velaphi Zakhele Dlamini had been an acting judge of the Industrial Court for sometime until his permanent appointment to the Industrial Court yesterday. Also appointed to the Industrial Court was Judge Lungile Msimango. She was an acting judge of the same court. Prior to her acting appointment, Judge Msimango was the Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the JSC. The King also appointed three judges on an acting basis. These are Mabandla Manzini, who has been an acting judge of the Supreme Court for a long time now. He has been appointed for a further three months to the Supreme Court.

Acting

Thamie Lawrence Dlamini, known as TL, was appointed to the High Court as an acting judge. The Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court, Banele Ngcamphalala, has also been appointed Acting Judge of the Industrial Court. Ngcamphalala has been an acting judge of the same court for some time now. Maphalala said they were grateful to the King for the appointment of the judges. Regarding the acting judges, the CJ said they would continue to engage government, with the assistance of the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Pholile Shakantu, for the posts they needed. He also stated that they hoped that the acting judges would become permanent since they had been acting for a long time.
