UNIOR OFFICERS VISIT EX-NATCOM HOME
LOBAMBA – A number of junior officers yesterday paid a brief visit to former National Commissioner (NATCOM)of Police Isaac Mmemo Magagula’s home, but they did not find him.
This was after their appearance at the Police Headquarters in Mbabane where they had accompanied their colleagues who had been summoned there. A convoy of about six cars drove to Magagula’s residence in the afternoon. The officers did not alight from their vehicles but communicated with some family members who were found in the yard that they had come to see Magagula. In response, the family members stated that Magagula was not at home. The officers said they would return to see the former NATCOM later in the day and drove off. When interviewed later, the junior officers stated that they wanted the Phase II of the salary restructuring exercise of 2014 from Magagula, who was their boss at the time. According to the officers, they had done their investigations about the monies and allegedly knew where Magagula invested it and that the investment was supposed to mature in 2025.
Comment
Reached for comment regarding the junior officers’ visit, Magagula said the visit to his residence was an invasion of privacy and peace. He said he did not think police officers would react in such a manner as they knew how their issues were addressed. “I am disturbed by the manner they are handling things as though if you are working for government, you carry a bag of money to give individuals,” he said. Magagula also said civil servants were remunerated according to government scale and regulated by a circular. He said because he was in office when everything unfolded, the matter should be resolved in the office and not be personalised.
