TAXI MAN STABBED 15 TIMES, DIES, EYES REMOVED
MHLANGATANE – To say ‘gruesome’ is an understatement when describing the manner in which a 36-year-old man was killed.
This is how residents are describing the murder of Majahonke Vilane who was stabbed to death. He and was a taxi driver based around Buhleni. The murder is said to have happened last Monday. It is alleged Vilane was stabbed about 15 times and had his eyes gorged out. Some of the stab wounds are said to have been on the chest area. It is said that his eyes were also gored using a sharp object.

According to Vilane’s brother *Jomo, before his brother was killed, some people had arrived at their home to look for him. However, he was not around at the time and they left without questions when they heard he was not home. He said it was not clear why they were looking for him.
Jomo said, later in the evening, after 8pm, a woman who was friends with his brother (Majahonke) called him on his cellphone and asked for the two to meet at a nearby spot. Vilane is said to have gone to meet the woman. It is also alleged that before he left the house, Vilane is said to have told one of the people at the homestead that he would return shortly and that he had gone to meet the woman who had called him.
Secluded
Jomo alleged that when Vilane and the woman met at their secluded spot, some people appeared from the surrounding shrubs and attacked him (Vilane). He said according to information they gathered, there were at least three people who were involved in the alleged murder. He also mentioned that a man was apprehended in connection to the murder. However, he said many residents did not believe the apprehended man was capable of committing the crime alone, because Vilane was bigger than him in body size. Further, he stated that at the spot where it is alleged that Vilane was murdered there were several footprints of different sizes. He said this was a sign that there were more people who were involved in the murder. Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni, confirmed the murder. She also stated that a suspect had already been arrested.
