POLICE AFTER PEOPLE SEEN ON VIDEOS HARASSING BEMANTI
MBABANE - The police are after people who were seen on videos harassing and insulting the water party (Bemanti).
The National Commissioner (NATCOM) of Police William Tsitsibala Dlamini said individuals who were seen disrupting members of the Water Party from conducting the ancient tradition of Eswatini would be prosecuted. The police boss was responding to videos that are circulation on social media platforms. These videos showed people insulting and preventing members of the Water Party from entering their homes and conduct a tradition called kuhlamahlama. The videos also show some people threatening them and ordering them not to ever set foot in their homes and their presence ever again.
Duty
Some, who are met on the road in these videos, refuse to offer tokens to the Water Party, which is also known as kubendlulisa. “We saw videos on social media of people insulting and disturbing the tradition, we are after those individuals and they would be arrested.” The NATCOM said they would be dealt with accordingly. He urged the nation to embrace the members of the Water Party because they were on national duty. They should stay away from them and let them perform their task. He said the Water Party was peaceful, they never stepped on people’s rights. The NATCOM said those who felt that their rights had been violated by the members of the Water Party should report them to the nearest police station. “No one has reported any abuse from the Water Party, therefore, we are not expecting them to be interrupted.”
