MAN SHOT BY COPS AT KAMCHOZA, HOSPITALISED
EZULWINI – A resident of Ezulwini has been admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital after he was shot, allegedly by the police at KaMchoza Bar.
Some of the people found at the scene told this publication that the police officers arrived at the establishment in a motor vehicle, shortly after the bar had closed for the day. Sources said the patrons were preparing to leave and others were finishing their drinks within the premises when the police arrived. “One of the police officers fired random shots at the patrons as they proceeded to the bar. The patrons ran for cover while some pelted the police officers with stones. Mbuso Mdluli was shot with a live round of ammunition twice, just above the ankle. The police officers left him and proceeded to raid the bar,” said one of the patrons.
Rushed
He further mentioned that Mdluli bled for almost an hour before his brother arrived and rushed him to the Mbabane Government Hospital. Tito Mabuza, who runs the establishment, confirmed the incident. However, he said he did not know how the shooting came about. “I was packing my belongings after closing the bar when a group of police officers arrived in a motor vehicle. They told me to chase the patrons away from my business premises and I came out to address them,” he said. There was a version to the effect that Mabuza had a misunderstanding with the law enforcers and he manhandled one of them. However, Mabuza denied having manhandled a police officer. Instead, he claimed that the police officer was the one who manhandled him. “The police officer manhandled me. I even told him that I was not scared of him but I respected the uniform. He kept telling me to chase the patrons away from my business premises and I told him that the patrons were there on their own volition. I told the police that I have no authority to chase people away, especially after closing the bar,” he said.
Mabuza mentioned that it was not the first time police officers came to the bar in a space of about three weeks. He alleged that the officers of the law fired shots and tear gas at the establishment a few weeks ago.
