COUPLE ATTACKED, HOUSE TORCHED, TWINS DIE
KAPHUNGA – Twin girls aged seven died after they inhaled smoke while inside a burning house at kaPhunga.
They were hiding inside a wardrobe from a group of four men who had come to attack their grandparents. The incident happened at a Mkhatshwa homestead located around kaPhunga, not far from Mkhondvo, in the Shiselweni Region at around 2am yesterday. It was stated that one of the four men was a relative to the attacked family. Information gathered from sources working close to the matter was that the relative, *Sizo, attacked his uncle and his wife. Sizo is wanted by the police in connection with the shooting of a police officer around kaPhunga who was rushed to hospital sometime this year. It was alleged that Sizo and his counterparts held the uncle and wife hostage.
Hostage
Sources revealed that the hospitalised couple disclosed that while they were held hostage, they were accused of snitching information to the police after the shooting incident. Sizo had been on the run since the shooting incident, according to the sources. “While he was on the run, his mother got sick and passed on and he could not attend the funeral,” narrated the source.
It was revealed by the sources that Sizo, while holding the couple hostage, blathered that he could not even attend his mother’s funeral. The couple’s cellphones were taken from them after being assaulted by Sizo and his counterparts. Further information was that they then started a fire inside the house and the couple tried to fight them but in vain. The couple is said to have rushed out of the house as soon as they got a chance. By then, it was said that the four men had fled the scene.
Wardrobe
The family was said to have had a challenge going back into the house to retrieve the twins who were inside the wardrobe and it was only after the fire was put out that they reached out, only to find their lifeless bodies. The couple and the children were taken to hospital where the twins were certified dead by a medical doctor. Community members refused to comment about the incident as they stated that they feared for their lives and those of their children, in particular because Sizo was still at large. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the death of the two children aged seven. She stated that there were four men who were said to have invaded the homestead. Vilakati said they were still investigating the murder case.
