MANZINI- “I bought her a car and paid lobola.”

Murder accused and popular referee Lucky ‘Makalakalane’ Ndlangamandla said he had bought a car and also paid bride price (lobola) for his late wife, before he allegedly stabbed her multiple times to death in their rented flat at Logoba on Wednesday morning. The accused allegedly stabbed his wife using a knife in the early hours around 5:30am after he had returned to their rented flat.

He had spent the night in another house. Neighbours were said to have been woken up by the screams of the wife, who was pleading for her husband’s mercy. The husband later turned himself in to the police. Meanwhile, during a confession at the Manzini Magistrates Court yesterday, it was gathered that the couple had an estranged relationship, even at the time he paid the lobola. According to the accused, he loved his wife sincerely and even bought her a car. The model of the car was not mentioned.

Challenge

He alleged that at one instance, he and his wife went to her parental home in Nhlangano, where they intended to spend the night. However, he claimed that they had a challenge when he was told he could not spend the night there, as there were relatives who had occupied the rooms. As a result, he alleged that he had to spend money to book into a guest house. He added that he was shocked when he learnt that some of the wife’s other relatives were brought in after him.

Meanwhile, before the stabbing incident, the accused alleged that he did not spend the night at his rented flat and arrived in the morning, when he found his wife. Ndlangamandla supposed that he initiated sex with his wife but she denied, something that irked him because he had noted that she had been estranged from him. He claimed that an argument ensued, where he asked her about the alleged relationship she had with another man in South Africa.

The accused narrated that his wife blatantly told him that she no longer loved him, and that she was regretful that he had paid the bride price.
“She said she wished I had not paid the bride price, and further expressed her wish to have it returned to me. I was disheartened and took the knife which I used to stab her,” the husband relayed.

The accused said after stabbing his wife, he went outside his house and left her. He said he was met by a crowd of people who then fled, thinking that he was after them. The accused said he later changed his clothes and went to surrender himself to the police. On another note, it was revealed that the couple had previously had challenges in their marriage and consulted their families who tried to intervene. However, the issues persisted.
These are allegations whose veracity is yet to be tested in court.

‘Makalakalane’ cries hysterically for about 4 hours

MANZINI- The murder accused could not be controlled as he cried hysterically during his appearance at the Manzini Magistrates Court. It took about four hours for the court to complete the process of getting a confession from Lucky ‘Makalakalane’ Ndlangangamandla, who cried when narrating the incident that led to the death of his wife, whom he stabbed.

Ndlangamandla, who is also a popular referee in the social circles, was reportedly overwhelmed by emotions as he often failed to proceed detailing how he repeatedly stabbed his wife in the body until she died. The accused was heard sobbing from outside of the court chambers, something that drew the attention of people who had gone to the Manzini Magistrates Court chambers for various reasons.

Others were heard asking the reasons behind the sobbing of the man, who wept uncontrollably. The accused would be reportedly given some moments to compose himself and then proceed narrating his story. However, he would then cry uncontrollably again. It was about 1pm when the accused finished making his confession before the court. The confession had started at around 9am.

After his confession, Ndlangamandla was seen being escorted by members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service, under the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He was handcuffed and was carrying tissue paper. His eyes were bloodshot and he was seen in a sombre mood.
