NOT ALL WANT TO SEE PARLY OPENING SUCCEED – PM
MBABANE – Prime Minister (PM) Cleopas Dlamini says it is not everyone who wants the opening of the fifth session of the 11th Parliament to be a success.
Dlamini made this assertion when emphasising on the point that people who will be attending the event should maintain a high level of respect, more especially because it would be broadcast live on different platforms and would reach an international audience. The PM made his address after the final rehearsals of the official opening of Parliament by His Majesty King Mswati III, which will be held tomorrow. The King is expected to address the nation and give a highlight on the direction the country will take going forward.
Speech
As previously mentioned by the Speaker in the House of Assembly, Petros Mavimbela, this year’s Speech from the Throne would be significant in that it did not only mark the resumption of Parliament business and policy direction, but also the final speech for the 11th Parliament from 2018 to 2023. Dlamini said there should be no pushing and shoving for the King’s attention, as that would not paint a good picture to the international audience, but people should respect boundaries and know where to move. “Those who will be delivering speeches should stick to the time allocated to them. “The audience may get all excited by one’s speech, so much that they might be tempted to extend beyond, but time should be respected,” he said.
Allocation
On the issue of time allocation, Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini mentioned that the pastor, who will deliver a sermon prior to the speech from the throne, will have five minutes, while she will request the head of State to address the nationin 10 minutes.
The head of government forwarded his appreciation to the evident effort made by all stakeholders in ensuring that preparations for the event were done to everyone’s satisfaction. He encouraged those involved in the preparations to continue with the good work even today to ensure that everything went smoothly tomorrow. Clerk to Parliament Benedict Xaba said all was set except for the final touch ups on decorations at the marquee.
