SIMUNYE – A son to the assassinated Hlane Game Reserve Chief Ranger George Mbatha yesterday appeared at the Simunye Magistrates Court, charged with murder together with another man.

Fana Vusi Mbatha (34) of Lomahasha and Ndumiso Fakudze (28) of Mhlumeni appeared before Magistrate Nomcebo Mabuza. According to the charge sheet, the duo has been charged for (allegedly) unlawfully and intentionally shooting and killing George Mbatha, a male adult aged 68. When their right to legal representation was read to the duo, accused number one (Fana) elected to engage the services of an attorney while his co-accused (Ndumiso), chose to conduct his own defence.

Worth mentioning, is that Fana is one of Mbatha’s children who appears in the restraining order granted by Acting Principal Magistrate Musa Nxumalo to the late George at the Simunye Magistrate Court last year. They are expected back in court on Thursday. Magistrate Mabuza instructed the duo to move a bail application at the High Court through their attorney.
