‘WE APPRECIATE VICTORY'

MBABANE – “If you buy a Bible from the devil, pray for it because it might come with demons.”

This was Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Mbongwa Dlamini’s advice to members of SNAT after the Industrial Court set aside government’s decision to withhold his salary from October 2022. Dlamini was addressing his supporters, who largely included members of the SNAT executive and branch representatives, among others, after the court had issued the judgment. He said they appreciated the judgment and advised members of SNAT, and its executive, to be cautious and vigilant as they went about their business.  “As we appreciate the victory, let us not forget who we are dealing with. Asiyibuke ngalamanye emehlo. They might shift their target to a softer target because all eyes were on the president,” said Dlamini.
The SNAT president appreciated the support he received from the association and encouraged them to show the same support to other members. He also encouraged the leadership to religiously pay affiliation subscriptions to Education International (EI).

Immense

He said EI’s support to Eswatini was immense. He also said SNAT members should support other countries that needed it.  SNAT Secretary General Lot Vilakati said the president of the association would serve his term to the end regardless of what others wanted. Vilakati said the challenge was that government did not follow rules to the letter, hence the taking of decisions unilaterally. He described Dlamini’s case as a direct attack on SNAT. “It is purely political. It is pure union bashing. They wanted to start with the president and follow with others. The president did not absent himself and the union did nothing except to speak on members’ rights,” said Vilakati. Eswatini Schools Committee and Parents Association (ESCAPA) also appreciated the judgment. Ngwane National Liberatory Congress (NNLC) President Sibongile Mazibuko said Judge Lungile Msimango must be promoted when other judges got promotion for issuing a fair judgment.
