LOBAMBA – Senators reversed a decision taken by MPs that bucopho should also campaign for office and be elected at secondary elections.

The status quo, under the Elections Act of 2013, is that bucopho are nominated at imiphakatsi and are elected into office during Primary Elections.

Informed

However, senators were informed yesterday that MPs complained that at Secondary Elections, the bucopho were prone to de-campaign election candidates successfully because, by that time, they were usually elected bucopho, wielding some influence over the electorate. Senators yesterday said the status quo must be maintained and bucopho must not wait until the Secondary Elections.
