FAMILY’S DEATH: GAS TRACES FOUND IN LONE SURVIVOR
MBABANE – Could the inhalation of gas from a cylinder be the cause of death for the three family members?
This comes after the doctor’s report for the lone survivor, who was in the same room with the deceased Ndzima family member, where a husband, wife and child died, showed traces of gas inhalation. The family was found dead at their home at Mdzangwini in Fonteyn last Saturday and suspicions were that they had drunk a poisonous substance. According to some family members, the doctor’s report revealed that the survivor, who is also the late couple’s son, inhaled a certain gas. The deceased family members are Bongani and Nokuthula Nzima, who were husband and wife and their 12-year-old daughter Tiyandza, who was a pupil at St Francis Primary School.
Established
Bongani was a church leader for the Religious in Christ Church and had recently established a branch at Mdzangwini, where he also had a home, and was about to be ordained. He was employed as a laboratory technician at the Mbabane Clinic and his wife was employed by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. When the family members were discovered dead, there was a basin, spoons and a concoction (indayela), which was boiling in a pot on a gas stove. However, there were no cups to assume that the concoction had been consumed, as it was found still boiling inside the pot. A relative, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that the outcome of the doctor’s report for Mcondisi Nzima, who survived, showed that he inhaled a certain gas. He said it did not state whether it was gas from the gas cylinder or another.
Post-mortem
The relative also mentioned that the post-mortem results revealed that they were reserved until around June 27 and 28. “The post-mortem results were taken to Pretoria, South Africa for further screening to ascertain the cause of death,” he said. The late Nzima family members were laid at their final resting place yesterday at their home, where over 300 people gathered, including members of their church, who came from South Africa (SA). Describing the deceased couple, speaker after speaker said they loved each other and also showed it even in death.
They said Bongani loved his wife so much and took care of his family. Bongani was discovered with his wife in a hugging position, while seated on a couch and their daughter on the floor.
One of the speakers who said he was Bongani’s brother, described him as a prayer warrior, who loved his family and people in general. This, he said, was shown through support from people of all walks of life, who came to bid him farewell by paying their last respects to him. On the other hand, his wife too was described as loving by her colleagues at work and family. A brother to the wife said she would be remembered for her kindness and that her place would never be replaced by anyone. “You have taught us nothing but goodness and showed us love when you lived and we thank you for that. May God accept you and I am convinced that you shall be received warmly by God due to your acts of compassion,” he said.
Loving
Furthermore, he thanked his sister’s late husband for loving his wife, ever since the day they met until death. From the couple, he said he realised true love existed and that through his brother-in-law who even in death showed it, leaving with his better half. He said they surrendered everything to God, as they might not have answers on what happened to the couple and their child that led to their death. The survivor and son to the deceased couple, Mcondisi, said he was still shocked, dumbfounded and in disbelief by what had befallen the family. “Mum and dad, rest in peace and Tiyandza,” stated Mcondisi as he broke down in tears. St Francis Primary School Head teacher Samso Mthupha said they were touched by the death of their pupil. Mthupha said teachers, parents, learners and the Ministry of Education and Training were shattered by the demise.
He said they had hoped that Tiyandza would raise the flag of the school as she was one of their brilliant stars and would see her each time she was dropped-off by her parents at the school in the morning. “When we received the message on Monday morning of the sad demise, everyone was left heartbroken in the manner the incident happened,” he said. Mthupha sent his condolences to the Nzima family and relatives. The late wife’s twin sister stated that it was not a mistake before the eyes of the Lord what had happened to the Nzima family. She said what had happened was within God’s programme as each and everyone would be called differently to meet their maker.
Passing
The sister stated that she was however hurt by the untimely passing of her twin, who always intervened on her behalf because she was well-spoken. “Farewell my twin and mother’s daughter, I will always remember you,” she said. Archbishop Bheki Ndlozi from the headquarters of the church in Soweto, also described Bongani as a person who was down to earth and humble. He encouraged the family to be strong and trust God, especially because Bongani walked righteously before the Lord. Ndlozi said as the church, family and community, they were befallen by something that was very tragic. He said the death of so many people who were family members at once showed that life had no guarantee and the Word of God also showed that. “There is only one guarantee in life, which is accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour of our lives and gain eternal life.”
