EZULWINI – Paying for services at the Ministry of Home Affairs is now as easy as dialling *468#.

This was announced by Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe yesterday, during the official launch of the mobile payment system for the ministry, in partnership with telecommunications giant, MTN Eswatini. Queuing at Revenue Offices will soon be a thing of the past as the public can now make payments from the comfort of their homes. This will also help with saving travelling costs.Travel documents, identification documents, birth certificates, death certificates and other civil registration documents payment can now be made through the Mobile Money (MoMo) platform by dialling *468#. It is worth noting though that this e-service platform is not new to the ministry, as in 2015, the ministry was the first government wing to utilise mobile services as they introduced tracking services for travel documents, passports, IDs and permit issuance on the unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) *468# platform.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the ministry further introduced the mobile payment system while also piloting the service for several months, which was a success hence yesterday’s launch.  While addressing stakeholders, the minister said: “I wish to point out as well that through the pilot project, the ministry observed that the public greatly appreciated the introduction of this payment service, especially in the rural areas where Revenue Offices are not easily accessible.”She also mentioned that the feedback from the public was positive so far and promised that her ministry would avail all the remaining services (permit and citizenship payments) through the same platform within the next few months.Princess Lindiwe added that the digital platform would improve the ministry’s record-keeping, as well as create opportunities for enhanced interface for the services rendered at the Ministry of Home Affairs. “We would like to thank our partners and stakeholders who have made our dream a reality. These include MTN Eswatini, who provided the collection platform and will further transmit the funds to the Government Treasury Department. Many thanks also go towards the Ministry of Finance for receiving and correctly allocating the funds. “The platform has proven to be safe and reliable,” she averred.
