MALKERNS – Afro-soul musician Khole launched her first album titled ‘For Afro’ on Friday at House on Fire Amphitheater.

The show started at 9pm, taking the stage was musician Khole and it was captained by New Life Entertainment, which is a record label that the musician is signed under. The entertainment stable also houses musicians such as DJ Cup, Slotta, Mvelo and Floewee to name a few. Since setting foot in the industry she has managed to perform in two festivals.

Perform

The first festival that she graced was last year’s MTN Bushfire and went on to perform during this year’s Makoti Festival held at Malkerns Country Club. In an interview with this publication, the musician shared that she was amazed by the reception that the album received from the fans during the launch. “I’m so excited, everything worked out like a dream. The record label delivered the red carpet that I always dreamt of. The audience was fantastic, they were receptive to my music I feel very blessed,” Khole said. When asked what’s the meaning behind the title ‘For Afro’, she cited that she aims to celebrate black consciousness. “The album has a title track called ‘For Afro’ and it’s all about celebrating black consciousness. There was a time in my life where the was a lot of influence, especially talking about black empowerment, the struggle of black men and colonialism.

influenced

“It influenced me more when I was a child so I wanted to be part of those people who would encourage Africa to rise up to its best and to shine. “I wanted to be an inspiration to young children to say you are black and you are beautiful,” Khole said. She further added that she aims to celebrate and promote cultures. “I am definitely pro-African, I promote everything that comes from Africa and I promote every other culture. “But then like I said, we have a history of oppression, we should never forget it and we should always celebrate and remember so that we don’t fall for those traps again,” added Khole. The launch was well executed with some local artists  showing up to support her during the album launch.

vibrant

Some of the spotted artists include Velemseni, Nomalungelo Dladla, DJ 1D as well as DJ Cup who delivered a vibrant set after the launch. MTN Bushfire Festival Director Jiggs Thorne also came to mingle with the entourage. DJ Cup’s set saw the end of the show at 22:30pm.
