MAKE ‘BUY CASH’ PARLIAMENT SPEAKER – VOTERS
PIGG’S PEAK – Supporters of Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza are calling for his appointment as the 12th Parliament speaker.
This is after he easily retained his seat in the House of Assembly when he won the secondary elections with a big margin against his competitors. Mabuza attained an outstanding 4 467 number of votes, meaning he surpassed the MP candidate with the second highest number of votes by 3 766 votes. Sandile Menano Dlamini from Nginamadvolo Umphakatsi attained 701 votes as the runner-up against Mabuza, meaning his votes can be multiplied at least seven times to surpass those of Mabuza. In third position was Nitho Siboniso Mamba, who had 514 votes followed by Mfanasibili Machawe Dlamini with 434 votes. On the fourth and fifth positions were Thando Evans Mokoena, who obtained 190 votes and Stephen Clement Siwela who had 30 votes in that order.
Supporters of Mabuza were already gathered to cast their votes on Friday morning at Mhlatane High School, where they anticipated the arrival of their preferred choice of candidate. His arrival was met with wild excitement as his followers, some of who were clad in custom designed outfits, showing their support for him. They sang songs, cheered for him while others hugged him when making his grand entrance. What seemed to be more interesting is that he was spotted sharing a light moment with former Mayor Victor Rodrigues, who had come to cast his vote and narrowly lost to Mabuza during the primary elections as he was among the favourites to win against ‘Buy Cash’.
After Mabuza was officially declared the winner of the secondary elections, some of the supporters at the polling station, who were awaiting his return to address them after being confirmed the winner, were overheard talking among themselves that Mabuza must be voted the new speaker in Parliament. This, they said, was because he was now not eligible to serve in Cabinet as per the kingdom’s constitution dictates since he had already served two terms, which, therefore, declared him not eligible to serve as Cabinet minister. Mabuza is the outgoing Minister of Agriculture. He also served as the acting Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, following the demise of former Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) Managing Director (MD) Peter Bhembe, who passed on while holding the Cabinet position. Though many called upon Mabuza to be appointed speaker, some were overheard talking among themselves that chances were also high that he might be given the position of deputy prime minister (DPM). Briefly addressing his supporters after winning the elections, Mabuza said he was humbled by the people of Pigg’s Peak’s love and trust. He said he loved them with all his heart.
