PUNTER WHO LOST E75 000 FOUND DEAD IN FOREST
NHLANGANO - The punter who tried to commit suicide after losing over E75 000 in betting was found dead in a forest, after he went missing for almost two weeks.
The deceased, according to sources, left clues of where he would be found as it is believed he committed suicide. It was gathered that he called his girlfriend whom he told that he was on his way to end his life. This is the same man who reportedly lost over E75 000 in one of the gambling platforms in August 2023. In the first incident *Musa, who was a Mobile Money (MoMo) agent around Nhlangano Town, first won over E20 000. In his second attempt, he won about E40 000. Sources informed this publication that Musa then went on to bet all the money he had won and lost all of it. It was said that he then used his business money to play but lost again.
Deposit
He is said to have then called an agent they used to load MoMo units and requested him to deposit about E15 000 into his account. He allegedly promised to refund the agent on the following day. According to the sources, Musa gambled with this money and lost. The sources further revealed that Musa then tried to commit suicide by hanging himself, but the tree he chose was too short. “He then tried to ingest a poisonous substance and locked himself inside his house,” said the source. The agent who had sent him the E15 000 is said to have called him several times for his money but he did not respond.
Taxi
The agent is said to have hired a taxi to Musa’s house, where he found his car parked outside and the keys to the house were in the key hole inside. “He was not picking but his phone was ringing inside,” narrated the source. It was further gathered that the agent called the landlord and they broke into the house and found Musa in a very bad condition. Musa was rushed to hospital, where he was later treated and discharged. As he was discovered dead last Sunday, it was said that he had been missing since September 28, 2023. It was said that a week before his death, he sold his car; two of his pieces of land and used all the money to gamble. When he went missing, he sent different text messages to his friends and relatives, including his girlfriend. It was said that he sent his girlfriend a message of where he would be found as he went to commit suicide.
Girlfriend
It was gathered that the girlfriend then went to the police station to report the matter and when the police called him, he answered his cellphone and told them he was not returning as he was determined to do what he wanted to do. “He told the police he would not change his decision and would not return,” narrated the source. A group of relatives went to search for him, where he had directed them to and they did not find him. On Sunday, he was found by a young boy who had gone to fetch firewood in the forest where he had said he would be. It was gathered that his body was decomposed was decomposed when he was found. One family member, who did not want to be named, confirmed the matter and stated that they were devastated about the incident. He stated that they were preparing for a funeral scheduled for Thursday and that they were still gathering finances to bury him as he left no money behind.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that there was a man who was found in the forest in a decomposed state.
