5 WOMEN SHOOTING: BODIES FOUND PILED UP IN PANTRY
EZULWINI – The bodies of the four women who were shot dead allegedly by a deputy sheriff were found piled up inside a pantry, where they were hiding from their assailant.
The women identified as Cynthia Shongwe, Dunkie Shongwe, Fikile Shongwe and Nonhlanhla Fazo Thwala, were shot on Saturday night, allegedly by Deputy Sheriff, Vusi Mncina.
Allegations of infidelity were cited as the cause of the fatal confrontation, as it was said that Mncina suspected that his girlfriend, Cynthia, was unfaithful. Information gathered from one of the people who were first to arrive at the scene of the crime was that one of Cynthia’s children came running and reported that there was a shooting inside their house. The time, according to the source was around 10pm.
Intruder
He said they were of the view that an intruder was trying to break in and commit a robbery. “Two children actually jumped out through a window to report about the shooting in their house,” narrated the source. According to the source, they tried observing from a distance, trying to figure out what was happening and later decided to enter the house, hoping to scare away the ‘suspected burgler’. However, he said when they entered the house, there was no one inside, which led them to search the house, only to find children. As they approached the kitchen, they opened the pantry and found four dead people and the survivor.
Cover
The source said it looked as if the women ran for cover, into the pantry, where they held each other against the door. “It would seem they were trying to push the pantry door to stop the assailant from coming in.” He said when the discovery was made, a four-year-old, who was also inside the room, told them that he saw the shooter and ran to hide under the bed, in his bedroom. While still reeling from shock, the source narrated that they saw police officers arriving and suspected that the assailant may have told someone who later reported the matter. Recounting the ordeal, the source said at around 4pm, on the day, some ladies arrived in different cars at the flat and were joined by another man of Zimbabwe origin. He alleged that the man first visited his countrymen, who were now occupying the same house that was rented within the premises before going to the main house, where there seemed to be a party taking place. However, the eyewitness stated that at around 8pm, the Zimbabwean came back rushing to his car and immediately left the premises in a hurry.
