TASK TEAM FOR EDUCATION CHALLENGES

MBABANE – Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo will announce a task team that will address all issues faced by the education sector.

The announcement will be made in three week’s time. Nxumalo said the task team would be made up of professionals in academia, who have vast experience and an eye for the future. He said it would be expected to work with all education stakeholders to address the challenges faced by the sector. The main aim of the task team is to ensure that every liSwati receive quality education, remodel the education to align with what the industry needed, staff availability and adequate housing as well as resources to support the sector. The minister added that the task team should also deal with the number of issues that they found in schools during their fact-finding mission.

The minister stated that rural schools were in dire need of government’s intervention. Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Secretary General (SG) Lot Vilakati appreciated the minister for the thought of forming the task team. He said they were hoping to make meaningful contributions to it, to aid the sector. “We will be part of the solution and will work with the task team to solve the challenges,” he said. He expressed belief that the formation of the task team would address the issue of the declining pass rate since it was not only attributed to COVID-19 and the unrest, but also other issues.
