MECHANIC WINS E100 000 IN MTN COMPETITION

LOBAMBA – John Mweli, a 59-year-old father of five is the happiest player of the MTN Back-to-School Promo.

Mweli bagged the grand prize of E100 000 cash after he became the customer with the highest number of points in the quiz game that is played by answering questions and sending them to 7080. Speaking from his car repairs workshop at Lobamba, Mweli said he was happy to be the final winner of the game, which is now closing, to give way for a new one called Mega Promo.

He described himself as a loyal player of the quiz game, which he plays on a daily basis. Earlier this year, at the beginning of the promo, he was awarded E30 000 as he became the January winner. He said; “I started playing the game to while away time as I would sometimes be bored at the workshop. However, the update messages that would come regularly encouraged me to play on.”

He said in some of the messages, he was told that he was among the top 10 players, while in others he was told that he was closer to winning. The competition also provides an option for one to check their point balance to know how they are faring.

Tuition

Mweli, who was in the company of his wife and two of his children said he was going to use the money on his son’s tuition fees at Limkokwing University. “My son is doing his first year in Information Technology (IT) and he has not received a government scholarship yet. I will also complete the construction of my house, which is at the roofing stage and then use the rest of the money to upgrade my car repairs workshop,” he said.

He added that it would be folly of him not to set aside a small budget to play again. “Actually I am aware about the launch of the Mega Promo, which can also be played on the 7080 platform,” he said. Handing the cheque to Mweli was MTN Chief Marketing Officer Desire Ruhinguka, who congratulated the winner and encouraged him to play more games which MTN has launched as a way of giving back to the customers.

MTN Value Added Services (VAS) Coordinator Lindokuhle Mamba officially announced the wrap-up of the Back-to-School Promo and the introduction of Mega Promo. “Mega Promo is available on 7080 where customers can opt in by sending ‘JOIN’ to 7080. Thereafter, customers will receive a set of questions to answer where, if they want to play on and on, they can send ‘MORE’. If a person wants the questions to be answered automatically, they can send ‘GO’ to 7080,” she said.

The prizes are still awarded on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. They include Bushfire tickets, E2 500 grocery vouchers. E5 000 cash, E10 000 cash and E25 000 at the end of the Promo.
