MBABANE – Employees of Puma Filling Station in Manzini are very fortunate to be alive after a robber invaded the place, stealing cash amounting to around E15 000 at gunpoint.

This shocking robbery happened at around 9pm yesterday in full view of the cashiers and customers who were present. According to the filling station’s Director Mausim Bhagubhai, the daring robber allegedly stole from both the filling station and the restaurant next to it, leaving onlookers stunned.

Gunshot

After stealing the cash, the robber is said to have fired one gunshot in the air before disappearing into the thick of night. “Yes, it is true, my filling station has just been robbed and cash amounting to plus or minus E15 000 was taken at gunpoint. “It is a miracle that nobody was injured during this robbery even though the thief fired a gunshot outside, soon after taking the cash,” he said. Bhagubhai said he suspected that the robber had a back-up of friends who were strategically placed without anybody noticing them.

Robbery

“I am convinced that his friends were waiting somewhere around the filling station to keep an eye on him as he carried out the robbery. We are only glad that nobody was hurt during the incident,” he said. The director then implored the police to start doing regular patrols around the filling station to ensure that such did not happen in future. Present in the shop during the armed robbery was the station’s other Director Rasid Bhagubhai.
“The lives of my employees were put in serious danger and my appeal is for the police to constantly patrol this area to ensure that we are all safe,” he urged.

Investigations

Police were called soon after the robbery to record statements from the eyewitnesses before proceeding with their investigations to bring those who committed this crime to book.
