GEGE – A five-hour long search for the missing Mbondzela Farm security guard, who is suspected to have been kidnapped, did not yield any fruits yesterday.

A contingent of police officers from different police stations in the Shiselweni Region combed the nearest forest in search of Vukani Mkhwanazi, to no avail. Mkhwanazi went missing while on duty at Mbondzela in the Shiselweni Region. The police officers, who were in the company of two family members and three guards of the farm, conducted the search, covering a distance of seven kilometres. The search began at 7am. The search party moved towards the direction Mkhwanazi was last seen moving in.

On the day Mkhwanazi was last seen, according to an eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous, he (Mkhwanazi) had set out to look for livestock along the boundaries of the farm and came across a group of unknown people. The unknown people were suspected to be members of political parties as they were allegedly seen wearing the same clothes around the area previously. It was said the unknown people jumped over a fence to the road, where they met Mkhwanazi. It was said that Mkhwanazi made a call to one of his colleagues, who he told about the people he had spotted.

Fired

It was said that a gunshot was allegedly fired by the unknown people at Mkhwanazi, who also fired back. It was said that he was then chased into the forests by the unknown people, and he had not been seen since then. The search for Mkhwanazi was intensified yesterday by police officers. Since Mkhwanazi went missing on Saturday night, he was searched for by the Gege police on the same night and the following day. The police searched for him in the forests and dongas. When Gege police conducted the search, they spotted shoe prints close to a stream. There was also a spot with various other shoe prints, suggesting that different people were in that area. Next to that area was a way out of the stream, which was in a donga. He is believed to have been abducted. About an hour before the search was abandoned, traces of blood were observed and samples were taken by the police for forensic testing to determine whether it was of a human or an animal.

Confirmed

Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni confirmed that the missing man was not found during the search. She said the search would proceed today. The police yesterday published Mkhwanazi’s picture as a missing person on their social media pages. They shared that he was last seen on May 18, 2024 around 4pm. He was last seen wearing navy blue jeans, a grey jacket, orange and brown buffer and brown half boots. According to the police, Mkhwanazi went missing with a firearm; a panzer pump action that was loaded with 10 live rounds of ammunition.
