MANZINI – “I was so broke and mingling with pigs, such that I had forgotten that I had suits.”

These were the words of Prophet Vusumuzi ‘Major V’ Dlamini after the swearing-in of the Liqoqo (Eswatini National Standing Council (ENSC) members yesterday afternoon at Lozitha Palace. Dlamini was wearing a navy blue embroidered beige Chinese jacket and matching beige pants with black and burgundy shoes.

‘Major V’, when being complimented for being dapper by some members of the media, said: “I was so broke and mingling with pigs, such that I had forgotten that I had suits.”In vernacular, he said: “Besengawa, ngihlala netingulube, sengakhohlwa nekutsi nginemasudu sengifaka tikhindi.Ngiphose ngahlanya impela.”

Allegiance

The founder of Mountain of Salvation International Christian Church, said taking the oath of allegiance finally made him realise that he was indeed appointed to be an advisor to the King as a member of Liqoqo. The man of the cloth was the 13th to take the oath of allegiance and unlike the other 17 members, who were also sworn in; Dlamini opted to place his left hand on the Bible brought by the Deputy Attorney General (DAG), Zandile Dlamini, and lift his right hand.

This is because the DAG had to all the members advised that they could lift the Bible with their right hand and or place their left hand on the Bible and lift their right hand. In fact, the first person to be sworn in was the Chairman of Liqoqo, Paul Dlamini, who was then followed by members of the royal family. Prince David drew laughter from the chamber, as he altered the oath from ‘so help me God’, to ‘so help me God of Heavens’.

In vernacular, he said: “Inkhosi yemaZulu ingisite.” As the members of Liqoqo were taking the oath of allegiance, Princess Tsandzisiwe had to correct the DAG and clarity that she was not Princess Tsandzile. She said this needed to be corrected. On the other hand, Prince Sibhimbi also had the chamber in stitches when he altered how the DAG had addressed him. Instead, when taking the oath, he referred to himself as Sibhimbi Dlamini.

Interpreter

Meanwhile, re-appointed member of Liqoqo Mzuthini Ntshangase, had the other members in stitches as he spoke Zulu with some in jest suggesting that he needed an interpreter as they did not understand what he was saying.
Also, former Acting National Commissioner of Police (NATCOM) Lydia Dlamini took the oath of allegiance on a semi-position of attention while her right hand raised the Bible.

The members of Liqoqo were in a jovial mood as former 11th Parliament Senator Moi Moi Vuka Masilela also got them in stitches. This was when the DAG called him Moi Moi. Masilela responded by saying; ‘If only I was wearing a suit, I’d be called Joseph’.

The last member to take the oath of allegiance was the Secretary of Liqoqo, Mandla Dlamini. Thereafter, the DAG thanked the members of Liqoqo for partaking in taking the oath of allegiance. It is worth noting that there are 20 members of Liqoqo; however, 18 were sworn in yesterday. Prince Bandzile and Princess Phumelele were not present yesterday.
