Malkerns – On the second day of the MTN Bushfire Festival, the Kingdom of Eswatini was ablaze with the spirit of celebration and cultural exchange.

The highlight of the day was an interview with Prime Minister Russel Dlamini, who lauded the festival for putting the kingdom on a global scale. In his insightful remarks, he expressed how the festival was the talk of an important meeting he attended the day before, emphasising its far-reaching impact. The prime minister emphasised the festival’s positive influence on various sectors of the country, particularly the transport industry, craft, and youth, as it brought in revenue and fostered critical information exchange with visitors from other countries. He went on to praise Jiggs’ vision, urging that his dream needed to be safeguarded for the benefit of the nation.

The literal fire of the festival was evident in the diverse activities that unfolded on the second day. At 1 pm, the Bring Your Fire Zone hosted a captivating fashion show that adhered to this year’s theme, “Green Your Fire,” showcasing designs made from recycled materials. The Main Stage drew large crowds, offering performances by Umuti from Eswatini, Musa Keys, and Lloyiso from South Africa. Umuti, a dynamic Eswatini-based band, brought their unique blend of traditional and modern sounds to captivate the audience. Musa Keys, known for his soulful and melodic tunes, and Lloyiso, a rising star with a mesmerizing voice, added to the electrifying atmosphere with their soul-stirring performances.

Meanwhile, the Amphitheatre hosted more jazzy and poetic performances from the likes of Sarnilo, Camilla, and Féten Féten, enchanting the audience with their soulful melodies and lyrical prowess. The Ballantine’s Stage, also known as the Firefly Stage, was a magnet for music enthusiasts as it featured DJ Cup, a prominent figure in the Eswatini House music scene, alongside Speech Umlangeni, and South African superstars Daliwonga and Da Capo. The vibrant energy of the crowd at this stage was palpable, with couples even carrying each other on their backs in a display of pure joy and camaraderie.

The Jagamister Stage, true to its promise of diverse performances, catered to every musical palate, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that resonated with the festival-goers, ensuring that there was something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the electrifying performances, the festival organisers ensured the safety and comfort of the attendees. The Royal Eswatini Police Service lived up to their promise of beefed-up security, with a visible presence of more officers ensuring the smooth running of the event. However, the larger crowds on the second day prompted an adjustment to the facilities, with an addition of about 20 toilets.

Despite this extra effort, long queues were still experienced, a testament to the overwhelming turnout and the festival’s growing popularity. As the festival continued to unfold, it became evident that the MTN Bushfire Festival was not just a gathering of music and art enthusiasts, but a platform for cultural exchange and unity. The prime minister’s endorsement served as a testament to the festival’s impact, and with each passing day, it continued to ignite the spirit of togetherness, creativity, and celebration, leaving an indelible mark on the global festival landscape.
