MALKERNS – Poppy Khoza celebrated her 80th birthday yesterday, in an event that was graced by Thabo Mbeki, the former President of South Africa.

Mbeki arrived yesterday for the event which Poppy, the wife of the late former Deputy Prime Minister, Arthur Khoza, hosted at Malandela’s Restaurant in Malkerns. The ex-president is expected to return to South Africa today. In a brief interview last night, Poppy, the first CEO of the Eswatini Tourism Authority, said she was born on June 13, but her children shifted the birthday celebration to yesterday to accommodate all their busy schedules.

She said she was honoured to have Inkhosikati LaMatsebula and Inkhosikati LaGija in attendance. She said she was also delighted to host Paul Dlamini, the current chairman of Liqoqo and former Deputy Prime Minister. Poppy thanked God for giving her many years on earth to cherish and serve Him. She also thanked President Mbeki for being a loyal member of the family. She was also happy with the place where she hosted the party.

“This is a beautiful place,” she said. It is where the world acclaimed Bushfire festival is hosted.
