ASTHMA SPRAY STOLEN AT BAR, PATIENT DIES
HLATIKULU – An asthmatic patient died, allegedly after his inhaler was stolen with his luggage at a bar.
The theft reportedly occurred on Sunday night in Hlatikulu, while the man subsequently lost his life on the following morning, after failing to locate his ‘asthma spray’ or inhaler. An inhaler is a device containing a medicine that is taken by breathing it in (inhaling). Inhalers are the main treatment for asthma and help to control asthma attacks or symptoms. There are many different types of inhalers, according to a medical expert. The deceased was a known asthmatic and apparently relied on his inhaler in any event he suffered an asthma attack. However, on the fateful day, he could not locate his inhaler, after it was allegedly stolen by unknown people, while socialising with friends at a popular watering hole in the small town.
Missing
Reports reaching this publication indicate that the deceased realised that his bag was missing on Sunday night, but proceeded home after having drinks with friends, only to suffer an attack on the following morning. He found it hard to control the chronic illness, resulting in his tragic death. Relatives are said to have tried to intervene by rushing him to a nearby health facility, but it was a tad too late, as the man eventually succumbed to the illness. The deceased was described as a well-known figure in the small town and at some point he ran a transport business. The theft of the deceased’s bag was reported at the Hlatikulu Police Station, where an investigation was immediately launched.
Information gathered from police sources was that the investigators were asking community members for help to identify the people who might have stolen the bag. However, at the time of going to print, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, said her office was yet to receive a report on the incident.
