MBABANE – A man suffocated to death when he was buried by coal at Maloma Colliery yesterday.
Information gathered by this publication last night was to the effect that the man parked his hoarse and trailer truck to load the coal. However, he reportedly left it idling to fix something inside the trailer and while in the trailer, coal was loaded. The sources claimed that the driver of the loader did not see that he was not inside the trailer. The insiders claimed that the trailer was filled to capacity and when it was time for the truck to be driven off the loading bay, they searched for the driver and he was nowhere to be found.
The sources claimed that his mobile phone was contacted and it rang within the truck’s cockpit. The sources claimed that it resulted in the truck being driven away from the loading bay in order to allow operations to proceed. However, later in the day, it was said some personnel suggested that the trailer should be emptied, which was when his body was found. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident. She said investigations were still ongoing.
