BUSINESSMAN SHOT DEAD IN SA IDENTIFIED
MBABANE – The businessman who was shot in South Africa has been identified as Tonny Lang, an employee of Michael Lee Enterprises, a company mining Green Chert in the country.
He succumbed to gunshot wounds in a suspected hit, while he was with the Managing Director of the company, Michael Lee, and another colleague. The trio were driving en route to Eswatini when they were attacked. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, two suspects aged 29 and 41 years from KwaZulu-Natal were arrested by the police and a murder case was opened.
Mdhluli stated that the suspects would appear today at the Ermelo Magistrates Court. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon around Chrissiesmer on the Carolina Road (R33).
Mdhluli stated that the police received information about Chinese nationals who were shot by suspects driving in an Audi Q5 with no registration numbers. He said police quickly responded and spotted the Audi, which was driving at high speed. Mdhluli said there was a chase between them (suspects) and the police.
Firearm
He said the K9 Dog Unit was also called for backup and eventually caught up with the suspects, who included two males aged 29 and 41, who were found with a firearm. He said the shot victim was taken to hospital where he later died. Meanwhile, Green Chert Spokesperson, Makhosini Dlamini confirmed that three of their members were involved in an unfortunate incident, where they were attacked and one of them passed away after he was shot. Dlamini said the managing director, who was also among the three who were attacked, survived with another colleague.
He said they were not aware of the motive behind the shooting and were still waiting for the reports from police investigations. The spokesperson said he could not speculate on whether the suspects were hit men, but they would have answers after police conclude their investigations. He said; “Management and staff would like to send their heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. May his soul rest in peace.” Dlamini said the company has suffered a great loss following the death and they would forever cherish the companionship that they had with him.
