MOB VANDALISES POLICE POST AFTER CLASH AT DRINKING SPOT
NHLANGANO – The Jericho Police Post was vandalised by a mob after two senior police officers were accused of allegedly assaulting a woman.
The police post services Sandleni, Hosea and Shiselweni I communities, in the rural areas of the Shiselweni Region. This publication has established that two police officers went to enjoy alcoholic beverages at a place known as KaMango. While there, it was gathered, they started arguing with one man in a group at the same drinking hole. The man’s siblings were said to have joined the heated argument, until the senior police officers left the scene.
It is alleged that the senior police officers were heard by others making threats that they would go to the police station and come back to take the siblings into custody. After they had left, sources said, a group of the siblings and their friends also left the drinking spot. The two officers are said to have returned to the drinking spot allegedly armed with rifles, only to find that the siblings and their friends had left. It was said that the officers went to the siblings’ homestead, where they found their mother.
According to the sources, the police officers questioned the mother on the whereabouts of her children and she insisted that they were not home. It is alleged that the police officers smashed some windows to look inside some of the rooms within the homestead and left. The mother of the siblings is said to have followed the officers to the police post to report the damage at her home. “She also wanted to enquire from the senior police officers what her children had done as they were wanted,” narrated a source.
